We loved this car the first time we had it… and clearly, so did you!

We always tell some of our customers to give us first refusal if they ever decide to sell one of their cars. So when we got the call to say this wild 1.6 ITB-powered Renault Twingo was about to hit the market, there was only one thing to do: jump in the car and get to it as quickly as possible.

The reason for the sale? A house move and the fact that the car simply wasn’t getting the use it deserved.

You all know by now that we love a Twingo here at EP Comps, and a mad one like this is exactly our kind of thing.

Behind that cute and cheerful face lies a genuinely aggressive machine. It’s raw, razor-sharp, fast-revving, and absolutely brutal on the road. And as the ITB trumpets poking through the bonnet suggest, this is no ordinary Twingo.

Under the bonnet sits a 1.6-litre K4M Renault engine, paired with Yamaha R1 throttle bodies, an OMEX Technology Systems 600 Series ECU, and a custom exhaust system. The noise this thing makes is nothing short of incredible.

From the factory, a Mk1 Twingo left the showroom with around 55 bhp. This one produces a mighty 150 bhp, and with so little weight to haul around, it turns this little French icon into an absolute rocket ship.

Visually, it looks sensational. The bright yellow paintwork, aftermarket bumpers, racing stripe, and perfectly chosen wheels combine to create a head-turning package. The lowered stance, courtesy of coilovers, finishes the look perfectly.

Inside, the fun continues. Additional gauges give it a purposeful feel, the Renault Clio 172 seats fit brilliantly, and the iconic Game Boy-style digital speedometer is the perfect finishing touch to this wonderfully quirky 1990s French classic.

If some wonderfully unhinged engineer at Renault had decided to build a Mk1 Twingo RS, we’re convinced it would have looked a lot like this.

This is one of those rare cars that makes every drive an event. It attracts smiles and attention everywhere it goes and delivers the sort of unforgettable driving experience that few cars can match.

So, if you fancy a gloriously silly, grin-inducing French B-road weapon with a happy face and a wild heart, you know what to do.
