Yeah, it’s not an 800bhp supercar for £2. It’s not some Frankenstein build with four turbos, nitrous, rear-wheel drive and, of course, a 2JZ crammed under the bonnet because apparently that’s the answer to everything. That’s exactly the opposite of what our audience wants. So, if you’re not the sort of person who spends every night sat alone playing Forza, convincing yourself you’d definitely drift Ebisu if only your mum let you stay up later, then this one’s for you.
As a genuine car enthusiast, I can honestly say this is one of the most joyful cars I’ve ever driven. It’s light, playful and full of character. The gear ratios are spot on, the gearbox is tight and satisfying, and every shift just feels right. The humble 1.6-litre engine only makes around 125bhp, but it’s a naturally aspirated screamer, so you actually have to work for the power. Keep it singing through the revs and it rewards you with a soundtrack that’ll have you chasing the redline just for the fun of it.
The real magic happens when the road starts to twist. Thanks to a handful of carefully chosen upgrades, it darts from corner to corner with so much confidence that it feels like the car is reading your mind. Turn the wheel and it simply goes, gripping exactly where you want it to and staying unbelievably planted. It’s one of those rare cars that makes you feel completely connected to the road, encouraging you to carry just a little more speed into the next bend because you trust it. Before long, you’re not driving it – you’re working with it. You might even find yourself sliding around in the seats… good job it’s got bucket seats! This isn’t a car for people obsessed with traffic light drag races or chasing 0-60 times. It’s for proper enthusiasts who love driving for the sake of driving, and maybe the odd track day too. After all, there’s a reason these became Nürburgring rental favourites.
Now, onto the car itself. This fast-road Suzuki Swift sits on 15-inch TSW Blade wheels wrapped in NS-2R semi-slick tyres, and it also comes with a spare set of original wheels. A quality set of coilovers has completely transformed both the stance and the handling, while Yellowstuff brake pads provide plenty of stopping power. It’s fitted with a Simota induction kit, OMP bucket seats and has the rear seats stripped out to save weight and add to the driving experience. There are also plenty of spare parts included with the prize that we’ve probably forgotten to mention! This is one of those cars that guarantees a massive grin every time you get behind the wheel, whether you’re heading to your favourite B-road or a track day with your mates.
