We like a small, nimble convertible at EP-COMPS, so we thought it was about time we got one of these little mid-engine machines on site. The MK3 MR2 is one of those cars that’s simply great fun, delivering a pure and joyful feel on open roads. This little machine has had a fair few upgrades to make it that bit sharper when you hit the bends of those open country lanes, making it an incredibly capable car for fun weekend drives. And if tracks are more your thing, it would make an excellent, fun, and cheap track car—especially at £1.49!
Upgrade-wise, this car is mainly focused on handling, but a couple of engine upgrades have also been carried out. These include an upgraded air filter, a sports exhaust manifold with no pre-cat worries, a sports cat, and a choice of two back boxes. Where this car really shines, though, is in the handling department, with Blitz ZZ-R coilovers, Whiteline anti-roll bars, EBC brakes, Team Dynamics Pro Race wheels, an Ultra Racing front strut bar, full Barbarian underbody bracing, and fresh drop links. On top of that, the entire underside has been stripped back and sealed, so it all looks very good underneath too.
140+ hp, 1000 kg, roof off, manual gearbox, and a great soundtrack… what more could you need from a fun summer car?
