About This Competition

Right, so we know what you’re all thinking… this isn’t very EP-COMPS — and you’d be right. There’s no mad engine swap or wild modifications here, and that’s exactly why we like it! Sometimes it’s nice to have a car we can all enjoy, one that really hits those nostalgic first-car vibes. Let’s be honest — who doesn’t have some kind of memory involving a Citroën Saxo?

Citroën were pretty clever back in the ’90s, offering free insurance to anyone buying a Saxo. This massively boosted its popularity with younger drivers and helped it gain almost cult-status in the car world. With an easy source of upgrades, big body kits during the Max Power era, and cheap running costs — even in VTR/VTS form — it’s easy to see why these cars became so loved.

But what really makes them stand out is the way they drive. The French have always been famous for two things… hot hatches and baked goods! The VTR is no exception, with a peppy 1.6-litre engine producing 100hp and 100 ft-lb of torque, thrown into a near-900kg shell. Add a surprisingly good suspension setup and disc brakes all round, and you’ve got a little hatchback that’s absolutely sensational to drive — with a strong chance of lifting a rear wheel through fast bends!

We adore these fast-appreciating modern classics, and we’re sure plenty of you do too. So strap in for a dose of nostalgia and grab a ticket for another one of our fair-priced, fair-odds competitions.
